Why Sell Ethanol & Biodiesel?

From adding to your bottom line to improving customer service, there are many reasons to sell fuel blends containing Iowa-made ethanol and biodiesel. If you are an Iowa fuel retailer considering biofuels, you have come to the right place! Differentiate yourself from your competition by adding cleaner-burning fuel blends that support Iowa communities to your fuel line up!

Benefits of Selling Biofuels in Iowa:

Add to Your Bottom Line. When you add higher blends of biofuel to your business, you get to tap into several federal and state tax credits and incentives. To learn more about biofuel tax incentives, contact IRFA Marketing Director Lisa Coffelt at LCoffelt@IowaRFA.org.

Iowa Grants Make Biofuel Infrastructure Upgrades Affordable. Adding higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel to your stations may require some infrastructure upgrades. The Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program (RFIP) offers retailers cost-share grants to convert their equipment to allow for the sale of higher biofuel blends. Grants can be as high as $50,000.

Offer Your Customers a Higher Quality Product at a Lower Cost. Industry research shows drivers are motivated most by price when choosing a fuel at the pump. Biofuel blends cost less than biofuel-free fuel. Not only will lower prices attract customers for fuel, research finds it will also lead to more inside sales as well. Furthermore, ethanol and biodiesel are both good for your customers’ engines. Ethanol boosts the octane in the fuel blend and biodiesel boosts the cetane.

Support Your Community. Ethanol and biodiesel are made from Iowa farmer commodities like corn starch and soybean oil. Iowa is also the leading producer of ethanol and biodiesel in the country. By adding biofuel blends to your operation, you are helping support thousands of Iowa jobs, farmers, and your community.

Ready to add higher biofuel blends to your station? The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association can help you every step of the way. To learn more check out How to Start Selling Ethanol and Biodiesel: RFIP Grants.
