JOHNSTON, IOWA – This morning in her inaugural address, Governor Kim Reynolds listed innovating Iowa’s energy policy among her top priorities for Iowa. In response to her strong support for Iowa biofuels, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw made the following statement:

“Iowa is blessed to have one of the most energetic renewable fuels supporters as governor be succeeded by another leader just as focused on the energy potential of Iowa’s fields and farmers. IRFA couldn’t agree more with Governor Reynolds that there remains great untapped potential for ethanol and biodiesel production and use in Iowa.  We stand committed to working beside Gov. Reynolds to enact the most innovative energy policy in the country and to pursue the Iowa Energy Plan’s goal of proving the real-world benefits of higher ethanol blends like E30 through real-world testing conducted right here in Iowa.”

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association represents the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry and works to foster its growth. Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production with 43 ethanol refineries capable of producing 4 billion gallons annually – including nearly 55 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity – and 12 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce over 350 million gallons annually.
