JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) is pleased to announce Nathan Hohnstein as its new Policy Director.
Hohnstein’s responsibilities will include overseeing state policy, supporting IRFA’s political and PAC programs, and working on state and federal regulatory affairs, among other duties.
Hohnstein most recently worked as a policy adviser for Governor Kim Reynolds. Prior to that he worked for former Governor Terry Branstad on boards & commissions along with work on multiple political campaigns.
“I’m excited to be joining the IRFA team because I get the privilege to continue to serve Iowans while advocating for renewable fuels, which are a vital component of our state’s economy,” Hohnstein said.
Hohnstein is originally from Cedar Falls. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in May of 2012, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Currently, Hohnstein is attending Drake University part-time for his Master’s in Public Administration.
“With the legislative session upon us and the Iowa Caucuses heating up, we’re excited to bring on Nathan with his mix of policy and political experience,” IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw said. “We are committed to making Iowa number one in biofuels production, use, and policy. Also, we will continue to utilize Iowa’s unique position as a swing state to educate policy makers from across the country on the benefits of biofuels. Nathan will be at the center of all these efforts.”
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association represents the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry and works to foster its growth. Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production with 44 ethanol refineries capable of producing 4.5 billion gallons annually – including nearly 55 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity – and 12 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce 400 million gallons annually.
