JOHNSTON, IOWA – Today President Donald Trump is set to visit Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy ethanol plant to celebrate with Iowa farmers and biofuels producers his administration’s action to lift summertime restrictions on E15. Prior to his visit today, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw made the following statement:

“Today we celebrate and say thank you to President Donald Trump for following through on his promise remove the summertime restriction of E15. We appreciate the President for taking a personal interest to ensure the unnecessary and ridiculous restriction on E15 was removed. Iowa farmers and biofuels producers are sincerely grateful.

“We are also calling on the President to protect the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) from further destruction due to small refinery exemptions. As we continue to wait for the decision on 39 small refinery exemption requests, the President should direct the EPA to follow the law and deny the unjustified exemption requests. This action will play a big role in how folks view the Administration’s record on biofuels.”

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association represents the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry and works to foster its growth. Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production with 43 ethanol refineries capable of producing over 4.5 billion gallons annually – including 34 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity – and 11 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce nearly 400 million gallons annually.
