Biodiesel is an environmentally-friendly, advanced biofuel that’s produced right here in Iowa. Biodiesel producers adhere to strict quality standards set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) to ensure consumers receive a high-quality, well-performing fuel.
Biodiesel can be used in existing diesel engines without modification. Blends of biodiesel are offered at a variety of levels, but the most commonly used blends are B5 (or 5% biodiesel), B11 and B20. Blends up to 20% biodiesel (or B20) exhibit cold flow properties similar to No. 2 Diesel and can be used year round. Many farmers use even higher blends in their on-farm equipment.
Biodiesel is not only cleaner-burning and biodegradable, it also boosts engine performance. Biodiesel provides increased lubricity, helping to extend engine life and reduce maintenance costs. Biodiesel also increases cetane and increases oxygen content making it a preferred blending agent for ultra-clean diesel.
