E85 is a low-cost fuel blend that burns cleaner than regular gasoline. In Iowa, E85 contains between 70 and 85 percent ethanol depending on the season.clip_image002_331

E85 is a cleaner-burning fuel designated for use in all flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs), of which there are roughly 16 million on the road today. Roughly 25% of new vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2014 will be FFVs, this includes nearly half of new models produced by  Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors as well as select models made by Audi, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

To determine if you drive an FFV, check your owner’s manual, the fuel cap or fuel door or consult this list of FFVs.

There are about 3,250 fuel stations offering E85 nationwide, including more than 200 in Iowa. For a list of fuel stations in Iowa offering E85, please click here.
