JOHNSTON, IOWA – On the eve of Governor Terry Branstad’s hearing before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee to consider his nomination to be the U.S. ambassador to China, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw made the following statement:

“Governor Branstad is undoubtedly the best choice for the position of ambassador to China.  Branstad has been a fixture for international trade for over three decades, but most importantly, his personal relationship with the Chinese president goes back just as long.  While we are sad to say goodbye to the longest serving governor in U.S. history and a lifetime champion of renewable fuels, we look forward to working with him to expand trade between the U.S. and China in his new role. We are excited about the work he will accomplish not only for Iowa but for the whole country.”

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association represents the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry and works to foster its growth. Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production with 43 ethanol refineries capable of producing 4 billion gallons annually – including nearly 55 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity – and 12 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce over 350 million gallons annually.
