JOHNSTON, IA – The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) is pleased to announce Valero as its newest producer member. The second largest ethanol producer in the U.S., Valero has five ethanol plants in Iowa capable of producing nearly 700 million gallons per year.
Valero, best known as the largest global independent petroleum refiner, owns 12 ethanol plants in the Midwest and produces renewable diesel, making it one of the world’s largest low-carbon fuel producers.
“With Valero’s footprint in ethanol, refining, and renewable diesel, they bring a unique perspective to IRFA’s board,” said IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw. “We both see a bright future ahead for liquid transportation biofuels as we continue to try to address both U.S. energy security and lower carbon fuel demand. IRFA looks forward to working alongside Valero to promote our shared priorities.”
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association represents the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry and works to foster its growth. Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production with 42 ethanol refineries capable of producing 4.7 billion gallons annually – including 34 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity – and 10 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce 416 million gallons annually.
