WEST DES MOINES, IA – Today Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) submitted formal comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding proposed Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) blending levels and regulatory updates for 2026-27 RFS.

IRFA strongly supports the EPA’s proposed RFS blending levels and advocates for limiting small refinery exemptions (SREs) while ensuring full reallocation of these exemptions. IRFA also supports the addition of new renewable fuel pathways.

Key points from IRFA’s comments include:

  • Endorsement of proposed RFS blending levels
  • Support of two-year RFS rule to enhance market certainty
  • Recommendation to grant fewer but fully reallocated SREs
  • Advocacy for adding ethanol-to-jet and hydrotreated soybean oil to naphtha/LNG pathways
  • Encouragement to adopt the latest GREET model for lifecycle analysis
  • Urging removal of regulatory barriers to year-round E15 sales
