Find the Best Biofuel Blend for Your Vehicle!

So you have a car, and would like to use cleaner-burning, American made renewable fuels? This section will help you determine which fuel(s) are right for your vehicle, and where to find them
The first thing to do when determining what fuel to use in your vehicle is to consult your owner’s manual. If this is not an option, or if you’d like to see if other options are available for you, simply follow the headings and links below to ensure you are using the best blend for your vehicle.
Do you drive a 2001 or newer vehicle?
Then Unleaded 88 is the right choice for you.
Unleaded 88/E15 is EPA-approved for all 2001 and newer passenger vehicles, SUVs, and light-duty trucks. Unleaded 88 is a blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline. It contains just slightly more ethanol than the E10 blend typically used today, but provides greater savings, more octane, and virtually the same fuel economy.
With Unleaded 88 you can save anywhere from 10 to 30 cents a gallon!

Do you drive a Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV)?
If you drive a flex-fuel vehicle, or FFV, you can maximize your savings and the benefits of biofuel on Iowa’s economy and environment by using any ethanol blend on the market today up to E85, fuel containing up to 85% ethanol.
E85 has been on the market for 30 years. It has an octane rating of roughly 98 and reduces emissions by more than 30% compared to regular gasoline.
If your vehicle is an FFV it will be noted in the owner’s manual or on the fuel cap. You may also find Flex Fuel decals on the outside of your vehicle like those pictured here.

Do you drive a diesel vehicle?
Then a biodiesel blend, a cleaner-burning, advanced biofuel, is the right choice for you.
You can purchase biodiesel in blends from B5, containing 5% biodiesel, all the way up to B20 or B50, containing 20% and 50% biodiesel, respectively. All diesel engine manufactures approve of B5 and lower blends. Most approve of blends up to B20.
Biodiesel provides greater engine lubricity which helps extend engine life and reduce maintenance costs, and it carries a higher cetane rating compared to petroleum diesel. It’s also cleaner-burning, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to nearly 90%.

Do you drive a vehicles from year 2000 or older?
Your vehicle will love E10. E10, also known by several brand names such as Unleaded, Super Unleaded, Regular, ect. is 87 octane and contains 10% ethanol. It is the most commonly sold fuel in the U.S. and can be used by all vehicles on the road today.
